Rolling Meadows at Rentzel Farm is a private community of 237 single family lots in East Manchester Township, York County, PA.
The developer wished to construct a pool house consistent with the architecture of an 1827 stone farmhouse that existed on the site. Influenced by study of old photographs of barns and outbuildings that formerly existed on the site and analysis of the construction techniques and details employed at the farmhouse, a pool house design evolved that was sympathetic to the existing context and the site’s agrarian history.
The exterior of the building was designed to reflect the simple forms and proportions of Pennsylvania barns and employs a palette of traditional materials and colors interpreted in modern ways. Engineered stone veneer, fiber cement siding, and PVC trim were specified to simplify maintenance.
The interior of the building features men’s, women’s, and family locker rooms, lifeguard offices, a vending area, and spaces for building and pool mechanical equipment. Sports courts, playgrounds, and a picnic pavilion are adjacent to the pool area.
