Dutch Wonderland is a family amusement park featuring rides and entertainment geared toward young children. The park has been declared one of the “Top 5 Best Kids’ Parks in the World” by Amusement Today magazine.
Founded in 1963, the 48-acre amusement park was purchased by Hershey Entertainment & Resorts in 2001, which has spearheaded the park’s growth, including addition of new attractions and a water play area.
When Hershey Entertainment & Resorts acquired Dutch Wonderland, the company commissioned a complete inspection of all rides. One of the attractions requiring attention was the former Giant Slide, a park icon. SMB&R’s structural engineers developed a plan to reinforce the failing steel structure and fiberglass components and restore the attraction to its original appearance.
SMB&R has completed periodic structural inspections of the Monorail and developed designs for retrofitting and strengthening the framing columns and track. As park development has required changes to the Monorail’s path, SMB&R has consulted on track modifications.
SMB&R has also designed reinforcement for the roof of the Sky Ride station and completed inspections of the attraction’s gondolas and cables.
